Significant Progress on Austin’s F1 Track – Photos

By , February 28, 2011 12:37 am

I visited the Austin F1 track site this morning, and was pleasantly surprised at the progress that has been made in the past couple of weeks. With the required permits apparently now in-place, a significant amount of work has been done on clearing and grading the site.

The following photos show progress to date. Please feel free to use the images, with accreditation to Ian Weightman. If you need high resolution or additional images please contact me through this blog or via Twitter @F1_AustinTX.

F1 in the states has not got a great history, can Austin really pull it off?

  2. What’s going wrong with Formula One Ferrari at the moment? Innovation is a wonderful thing but it might be they’re introducing too much of it at once; if something goes wrong when you’ve made ten changes, you don’t know which change is upsetting the balance. Ferrari testing perhaps needs testing itself.

    Hi Ian!
Thanks for taking the time to do this! Looks like they are making progress out there. With the 22 million people in the Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio areas, I can’t see how this is going to fail. I have heard only one truly negative comment about the effort and that is the pricing of the tickets! As you know, I am taking a group to Spa and the tickets are $770 for gold seats. A friend here in the Ferrari
club recieved a survey from Tavo’s group and they are talking twice that! Eight K for the paddock etc. See if you can check this out!

Thanks for the great pics. Can’t wait to fly out there from DC in 2012.
I must say that Tilke seems to have heeded the requests from his critics and has finally designed an exciting looking circuit with plenty of elevation changes and overtaking opportunities.

    Thanks !
I live really near the future track and wanted to see the progress by myself. Not sure I need it anymore :)

Actions speak louder than words, and those photos, show actions, equals results,
    to final, end product.

Great photos! Just thinking of all those naysayers telling us it couldn’t get done.
